What is MasterCard SecureCode?

MasterCard® SecureCodeTM is another term for an Internet Personal Identification Number (PIN), which is used to reduce fraud and unauthorized card use. The program is for customers who use their Union Bank Debit Card or Debit BusinessCard (debit card) to make purchases over the Internet. This service is available to all Union Bank debit cardholders.

How does SecureCode work?

You must register your Union Bank debit card and create your personalized SecureCode. Once you have registered and created your own SecureCode, each time you make a purchase at participating Internet merchants, you will be prompted at checkout to provide your SecureCode. Your SecureCode is then confirmed, and the transaction is completed.

Your SecureCode will never be shared with any merchant. The process is similar to entering a PIN into an ATM.

Am I required to enroll in the SecureCode program?

In order for you to continue making purchases at Internet merchants that participate in the SecureCode program, you are required to enroll in this free service. By enrolling in SecureCode, you will have added security against unauthorized Internet transactions.

How will SecureCode protect me?

When you correctly enter your SecureCode during a purchase at a participating Internet merchant, you confirm that you are the authorized debit cardholder, and then your purchase is completed. If an incorrect SecureCode is entered, the purchase will be denied.

How do I register for SecureCode?

What is a Personal Greeting?

The Personal Greeting is a message that you create when registering your Union Bank debit card. It provides the added assurance that the pop-up box came from Union Bank and is not a "phishing" attempt. An example of a Personal Greeting could be "My kids are five and nine" or "My cat's name is Rascal." The Personal Greeting will be displayed in the SecureCode pop-up box and will be seen only by you and not the merchant. If the Personal Greeting displayed in the pop-up box is incorrect or is missing, you should NOT enter your SecureCode, but should instead immediately contact Union Bank at 1-800-238-4486 and press option 6 to report a possible fraud.

Why should I register my Union Bank debit card for SecureCode?

SecureCode helps provide added security to Internet debit card transactions through verification of the SecureCode PIN. Transactions where the SecureCode is incorrectly entered will be denied.

Is there a fee to get a SecureCode for my Union Bank debit card?

No. SecureCode is a free service for our customers.

Will I need to get a new card to use SecureCode?

No. You will be able to use any of your existing Union Bank debit cards. You will not have to get a new debit card to add this security feature.

How many cards can I register with SecureCode?

There is no limit on how many cards you can register. You must register each card separately and should choose a different SecureCode PIN and Personal Greeting for each card.

Do all Internet merchants require SecureCode to complete an Internet transaction?

No. Not all Internet merchants participate in the SecureCode program. View a list of participating SecureCode merchants. Please check periodically to see which new merchants have been added to the list.

How do I know if a merchant participates in SecureCode?

Most participating Internet merchants will display the SecureCode logo on their Web site. Even if you don't see the SecureCode logo, the merchant may still be a participant, so you will be prompted to provide your SecureCode at checkout. View a list of participating SecureCode merchants.

What happens when I use my SecureCode at a participating Internet merchant?

When you use your Union Bank debit card at participating Internet merchants, your card is automatically recognized as being enrolled in the SecureCode program. There is no need to sign on to the SecureCode service for it to work.

How will SecureCode change the Internet purchase process?

The Internet purchase process will not change except that you will now be prompted to provide your SecureCode during checkout. Your SecureCode will never be revealed to the merchant.

Will I be able to make purchases at merchants that accept MasterCard but do not participate in the SecureCode program?

Yes. You will be able to make purchases at Internet merchants who do not participate in the SecureCode program. You will not be asked for your SecureCode during these purchases.

What items do I need to enroll my debit card in the SecureCode program?

To enroll in the SecureCode program, you will need your debit card and the last four digits of your checking account number.
