Community outreach

The Corporate Social Responsibility for the Americas community outreach team leverages the products, services and employee talent of MUFG Union Bank, N.A., with the needs of small businesses and low- and moderate-income communities. This team works collaboratively with nonprofit partners, government agencies, foundations, and other financial institutions to maximize the Bank’s impact in the communities it serves. The community outreach team helps promote community and economic development by:

  • Engaging bank employees in volunteer opportunities that help small businesses and disadvantaged communities
  • Bridging the products, services and expertise of one of the world’s largest and most sophisticated banks with underserved and disadvantaged communities including, but not limited to philanthropy, loans and investments
  • Serving as the conduit for the work and resources of the MUFG Union Bank Foundation
  • We are dedicated to fostering economic sustainability in the communities we serve by promoting employee volunteerism and marrying appropriate and responsive financial products and services with the needs of the communities we are chartered to serve. 


MUFG Union Bank provides each of its full-time employees with up to 3 days of paid time off to serve the community. In addition, the bank has a generous matching-gift program to enhance the value of our employee involvement. We use VolunteerMatch to help our employees find volunteer and community leadership opportunities. Community Service Action Plan

The MUFG Union Bank, N.A., and MUFG Americas Holdings Corporation Board of Directors approves the bank's 2016-2020 Community Service Action Plan (CSAP), which is used to ensure the bank's compliance with Community Reinvestment Act requirements. The bank also meets semiannually with community groups to discuss the bank's performance. 

The CSAP has 11 tenets of focus: Economic Development, Small Business Lending, Multi-family Affordable Housing Lending, Single Family Affordable Housing Lending, Branch Technology and Deposit Products, Philanthropy, Environmental Stewardship, Community Advisory Board, Supplier Diversity, Innovation, and Workforce and Board Diversity.

My giving

Giving Back
We applaud the generosity and enthusiasm of our employees and support them through our Giving Back program, which is dedicated to facilitating employee giving and volunteering.

My Giving
The MUFG Union Bank, N.A., employee matching gifts program "My Giving" matches U.S.-based, eligible employee contributions dollar for dollar up to a maximum amount of $2,500 annually. In 2018, Employees donated $1,213,291, which the Bank matched a $1,037,748, bringing the grand total to $2,251,039.

My Volunteering
As part of our mission to proactively invest in the communities in which we operate, over 2685 employee volunteers donated 46,470 service hours in 2018.  Of the 46,470 volunteer hours, 3,820 hours, or 8%, were devoted to financial education.

As part of our mission to proactively invest in the communities in which we operate, over 2,466 employee volunteers donated 35,542 service hours in 2017. 

Of the 35,542 volunteer hours, 2,579 hours, or 7%, were devoted to financial education.

Union Bank Community Development Finance

Union Bank Community Development Finance makes loans and investments in affordable housing throughout the United States. Its developments serve low- to moderate- income populations, providing housing and services for working families and individuals with specialized financial needs such as farm workers, the homeless, and seniors.
